東京大学工学部金属工学科卒業。カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校（UCLA）大学院工学・応用科学研究科材料学・材料工学専攻Ph.D.。

　日本モトローラ株式会社、日本ルーセント・テクノロジー株式会社、ノキア・ジャパン株式会社、株式会社ドリームインキュベータを経て、2012年6月より2022年3月まで慶應義塾大学大学院経営管理研究科（KBS）特任教授。KBSでは産学連携による「産業プロデュース論」「ビジネスプロデュース論」などの研究を実施。2023年4月より慶應義塾大学大学院経営管理研究科講師。

　2018年9月より2023年3月まで山形大学学術研究院産学連携教授。山形大学では文部科学省地域イノベーション・エコシステム形成プログラムの事業プロデューサーとして山形地域の事業プロデュースを統括。

　2022年12月より慶應義塾大学大学院政策・メディア研究科特任教授。慶應義塾大学大学院政策・メディア研究科では「SFC地域イノベーション共同研究」に従事。

   Dr. Iwamoto is a Project Professor of Graduate School of Media and Governance, Keio University since December 2022. He was a Professor of Yamagata University from September 2018 to March 2023 and a Project Professor of Graduate School of Business Administration, Keio University from June 2012 to March 2022.

   Prior to joining Keio University in 2012, he was an Operating Officer of Dream Incubator and developed strategic consulting businesses in the technology management field and industry producing businesses in the multi-disciplinary field of technology, strategy and public policy.  Before joining Dream Incubator in 2002, he worked as a research manager of Nokia Research Center and as an R&D engineer of Lucent Technologies (Bell Laboratories) and Motorola (Semiconductor Sector).

   Dr. Iwamoto received his Ph.D. and MS (Master of Science) degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and his BE (Bachelor of Engineering) degree in Metallurgy from the University of Tokyo.
